The only reason people invariably shy away from buildings is that there is no real escape plan. Once you're in a building that is zombie occupied, you're in it for the long haul. Which is fine if a helicopter happens along - but what if you run out of supplies before help comes? Basically, in a tall building you're trapped.

Re: Shelter from the Living Dead

I personally believe the best shelter is probably the top floor penthouse of a hotel or tall apartment building. Hotel rooms and apartments, even if suites or double rooms, have no more than two entrances and windows (usually a pain to deal with) are so high off the ground and inaccessible they stand as no nuisance. You can get sunlight, and survey the area to make decisions such as when to leave, what your best route of escape is, where to get supplies, etc. Free windows also help with sanitation; throw a dead body or your day's business out the window. No hassle. Being near the roof also allows you to spot incoming rescue, and gets you near roof access so you can flag down a National Guard or Red Cross helicopter. Also, apartments and hotel rooms usually have heavy doors and extremely durable locks to prevent robberies, so boarding up won't be too difficult. If you can reach the top of a hotel before the power goes out, the zombies will be trapped with a useless elevator and lots of stairs with a heavy, already secured door at the top. Lots of space in a hotel suite or penthouse will provide comfortable room for as many as ten people, with plenty of supplies. It's also the perfect sniper/crossbow lookout, to kill incoming zombies before they even reach the building. If worst comes to worst, throwing a few bars across the door will stop zombies getting any other body parts inside your room besides their hands. Keeping the zombies below you allows you to have some breathing/surveillance room, it allows you to scout the other rooms on the floor for survivors/supplies, and puts you in the ideal spot for rescue. All in all, if you can get to it, use the penthouse.

Re: Shelter from the Living Dead

I'd go for one of those old titan missle sites.they're huge and were made to be self sustaining for years

Re: Shelter from the Living Dead

seany

Its most likely they have the super strength in movies is because its for the scare factor.

Brandon

Re: Shelter from the Living Dead

Justin
You have a GREAT point there. And, you're
right, the comic nails the prison-as-a-refuge idea. I just recently
finished book 6 of the series.

I'd love to hear more about your "apocalypse bag" by the way. A zombie is a decomposing person, their muscles don’t heal with strain and every step they take carries them one step closer toward eventual paralysis. So, what can’t a zombie do?

A zombie can’t:

Jump
Climb steep surfaces
Swim
Run
Swing from their arms

This list gives a fairly complete, although generalized view of their physical limits. And, the perfect shelter should take advantage of these.

That is very flaw In Sean Of The Dead They Swung there arms..
In Dawn Of the Dead THey Could run.
In land Of The Dead They Could Swim...aLSO in hosue ofn the dead. they could run and they could swim and they could drag people wich means there muscle strength would be high.
So This site has to be fixed becuase alot of thesrre facts have been proven to be flaw

Re: Shelter from the Living Dead

Hey Gabriel,
I appreciate you reading my "thing." I wrote before about the running
zombie versus the walking zombie here:
http://flowercast.net/2008/...

As far as running zombies in "Dawn of the Dead" I assume you're talking
about the most recent version - and not the original.

When I said "swing from their arms" I meant holding their body weight with
their arms as they hang from something - not swinging their arms as they
walk (and I know you're going to mention the zombie in the parking garage in
the new "Dawn of the Dead," but again - that is based on the running zombie
theory).

And look, a zombie is a dead person whose body is decomposing. One of the
most important things that set dead people apart from living people is their
ability to heal wounds. When a living person exerts strength, their muscles
tear - and when they heal up again, they grow stronger. A dead person's
muscles can't heal - therefore they can't grow stronger - and, in fact grow
weaker every time they use their muscles.

So, please read my other posts, Gabriel - read Max Brooks' "Zombie Survival
Guide" and watch George Romero's original "Dawn of the Dead."

Thanks for reading,
Justin

Re: Shelter from the Living Dead

Zombies films have always a stirking of interest, Im reseaching because I want to write the ultimate zombie sceen play that will scare the crap out of poeple, but at the smae time keep poeple on the edge of there seats,
than scare than scare them somemore.
